Demand is growing around us for a video-conferencing service.
Although we already have different solutions for this:
- an XMPP ejabber server that works just fine
- a Synapse Matrix server that also can be used for video
- a Mumble service that only does audio, but is very useful during meetings
running our own service may ease the need to jump from one service to the next. We can also test how much it actually costs to self-host the service and evaluate whether we or our constituents need it.
If there is interest, I’m planning to install a dedicated VM at the beginning of next year.
