The WMO HydroHub together with UNEP, UNESCO, WWQA, EC-JRC and IAEA has launched an Open Call for Innovation Challenges aiming at collecting proposals for challenges faced in the water quality monitoring and assessment.

The selected challenges will be put forward at the upcoming Innovation Workshop taking place from 14 to 16 June 2023 in Ispra (Italy), to explore innovative ideas and identify solutions to address them. Please find here the dedicated webpage, which includes both the information on the Workshop and the Open Call.

Following the Call for Challenges, the Call for Participation will be launched in early April allowing any interested individual to apply online. The selection process for the applications submitted will take place after all applications are received.

What’s this got to do with us?

The key focus areas of the workshop are:

  • Crowdsourcing for water quality monitoring and assessment (including associated uncertainties);
  • Acceptance and integration of water quality data from non-traditional data sources (e.g., citizen science, remote sensing, modelling);
  • Low-cost methodologies to monitor and assess water quality;
  • Integrated spatial, geophysical, and ground measurement to monitor and assess water quality;
  • Methods of data exploration and visualization.
