Critical Cartography Brussels

Critical Cartography Brussels, aka Carto Club, is the forum space and mailinglist of an informal group of persons interested in opening the way and the aesthetic of mapping.

In order to investigate how our experiences draw a framework for research, ways of mapping, various tools to build, views of space, specifically situated, and directed. To challenge the authority of the map, its dominance, its father. To consider ways of encounter and research dedicated to cartography, to space and its representations, in a perspective of decolonizing the imaginary.

For the past two years Wænd.com has been a tool for collective creation and publication of maps. Due to its anchor in aesthetics, Wænd could serve as a form of invitation to create cartographic cultures apart from the engineering. Along the way, the scope of questions broadening, the desire to include this tool in a wider framework of reflection on the possibilities of the representation of spaces.

We have some ideas, we would be very happy to exchange them with yours. We meet every third Monday at 19h in a changing place in Brussels, which will be announced here.
